HUH Election Day Updates

Due to street closures and barriers in place for Vice President Kamala Harris's election night watch party event on the Howard University campus, we are advising all staff and patients to approach Howard University Hospital traveling from the south and east of the city (map for local traffic routes). Access to the secured area around Howard University will feature multiple manned checkpoints. Staff should be prepared to present their current employee ID badge. Non-emergency patients and their guests will need to clearly state their purpose for visiting the hospital in order to gain access inside of the security perimeter. Please consider using Metro as an option to avoid major delays.

Recommended Travel Routes to HUH

  • Georgia Avenue NW: The Georgia Avenue NW, corridor running parallel to the Hospital & University’s campus will be closed prior to and after the election. The 70 & 79 Metrobus routes, which travel this road have been rerouted.
  • Florida Avenue NW: Traveling from east to west on Florida Avenue NW, make a right turn heading north on any one of the following streets: 2nd Street NW; 3rd Street NW; or 4th Street NW. Then make a left turn on Elm Street NW, to access the Tower’s Building/Hospital.
  • Rhode Island Avenue NW: Traveling from north to south on Rhode Island Avenue NW, make a right turn heading north on any one of the following streets: 2nd Street NW; or 3rd Street NW. Then make a left turn on Elm Street NW, to access the Tower’s Building/Hospital.
