PATIENTS PRAISE HUH PHYSICIANS AND NURSES
"I
believe in Howard University Hospital...," said Ms. Viktoria
Trimmer, R.N. and crisis nurse, when asked what motivates
her as a nurse at Howard University Hospital. This is
the message and motive that resonates in the heart of
each physician and especially each nurse at Howard
University Hospital; and in health care, it is noticeably
one of a kind.
Nurses at Howard University Hospital are certainly among
the best in the nation, and their competitive advantage
is the passion and deep love these nurses have in the
care that Howard University Hospital provides: past,
present, and future. That passion lends well to the
continuous and compassionate care for patients who
enter the hospital.
A patient's mother recently spoke well of physicians and
nurses at Howard University Hospital.
"My daughter was treated in the ER after a bicycle/car
accident last Friday. She was cared for so well by the
doctors and nurses, that I wanted to let you know how
much it meant to us. When I received a call from
Viktoria Trimmer, her nurse, I was calmed and encouraged
by how she spoke. When I got to the emergency room, I
was again reassured by the care she was given. Please
let those concerned know what a fine job they did, and
please send to them my most sincere thanks and best
wishes."
Reflecting on that experience, Ms. Trimmer remarked,
"Considering the patient was alone and far away from
home, I had to put myself in the shoes of the patient,
and then provide a care to meet the patient's specific
needs. I had to create a channel where I could be an
excellent liaison for the patient, the patient's family,
and the patient's physician."
"Ms. Trimmer’s position as crisis nurse was created by
the Division of Nursing to improve the patient flow,
patient outcomes and patient satisfaction," says
assistant chief nurse Jacquelyn Billingslea, R.N., M.S.A.
"It is always reassuring when patients speak of how our
nurses provide excellent care on a daily basis."
